Preprod Wallet Setup
Set up a Cardano wallet on preprod testnet and get free test ADA
Preprod Wallet Setup
Before you can use Andamio on the preprod testnet, you need a Cardano wallet configured for preprod and some test ADA (tADA). This guide walks you through the setup in about 5 minutes.
Step 1: Install a Wallet
Install one of these browser extension wallets:
- Lace — Modern wallet by IOG, recommended for beginners
- Eternl — Feature-rich wallet, popular with developers
- Nami — Lightweight and simple
Click the link for your preferred wallet and follow the installation instructions for your browser.
Step 2: Create a New Wallet
After installing, open the wallet extension and create a new wallet:
- Click Create new wallet
- Write down your recovery phrase (12-24 words) on paper — never share this
- Confirm your recovery phrase
- Set a spending password
Keep your recovery phrase safe. Anyone with these words can access your wallet. Store them offline, never digitally.
Step 3: Switch to Preprod Network
By default, wallets connect to mainnet. Switch to preprod:
Lace
- Click the network name in the top bar (shows "Mainnet")
- Select Preprod
Eternl
- Click the gear icon (Settings)
- Go to Network
- Select Preprod
Nami
- Click the avatar/profile icon
- Click Network
- Select Preprod
Your wallet now operates on the preprod testnet. Any ADA shown is test ADA with no real value.
Step 4: Get Your Preprod Address
Copy your wallet address — you'll need it for the faucet:
- Open your wallet extension
- Click Receive or the copy icon next to your address
- Copy the full address (starts with
addr_test1...)
Step 5: Get Test ADA from the Faucet
The Cardano Faucet provides free test ADA for development:
- Go to the Cardano Testnet Faucet
- Select Preprod Testnet from the environment dropdown
- Paste your wallet address
- Complete the CAPTCHA
- Click Request funds
The faucet sends 10,000 tADA to your wallet. Funds arrive within 1-2 minutes.
Faucet limits: You can request funds once every 24 hours per address. 10,000 tADA is plenty for development and testing.
Step 6: Verify Your Balance
Check that the funds arrived:
- Open your wallet extension
- Confirm you're on Preprod network
- Your balance should show ~10,000 ADA
If you don't see funds after a few minutes, verify you're viewing the preprod network (not mainnet).
Troubleshooting
Funds not appearing
- Confirm your wallet is set to Preprod network
- Wait 2-3 minutes for the transaction to confirm
- Check the faucet transaction on Cardanoscan Preprod
"Address invalid" error on faucet
- Make sure you copied your preprod address (starts with
addr_test1...) - Mainnet addresses start with
addr1...and won't work on preprod
Faucet says "already requested"
- The faucet limits requests to once per 24 hours
- If you need more tADA, create a second wallet address
